Tummy Tuck

Corrects a loose, protruding or sagging abdomen and creates a flatter, tighter abdominal profile. As with liposuction, body contouring surgery is not intended to correct obesity; patients should be at normal or near-normal weight before surgery.

Generally performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation; general anesthesia may be recommended. Complements: May be performed in conjunction with liposuction to remove adjacent areas of excess fat. Where excess skin or weakened muscles are not factors, liposuction alone is an alternative.

You may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck if you:

  • are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin
  • have empty, hanging folds of skin after pregnancy
  • have hanging skin resulting from serious weight loss
  • have hanging skin that won’t respond to diet or exercise
